                June 5, 2008 Commission Meeting
John Brennan called meeting to order at 11:00am. Secretary Bill Fulton took roll call.  Present were Commissioners John Brennan, John Camardo and new commissioner Jack Hardy.  Also present were City Manager Mark Palesh, Police Chief Gary Giannotta and Human Resource Director Karen Green.  Members of the public joined in a little later.
Commis. Brennan requested to drop to new business so a chairman can be appointed.
Commis. Camardo motioned that John Brennan (Jocko) be appointed chairman to the commissioners. Hardy 2nd. Motion carried 3-0.
Commis. Brennan: Before we get started I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bob Welch for his 14 years of dedicated service. When he started here the civil service was in disarray. Since then things have run very smooth. Every year we receive kudos from the state for timely & efficient reports. I would like to thank Bob for all he has done for the civil service commission:
Commis. Camardo:  I too would like to take this opportunity to thank Bob for all his hard work. He will be sorely missed.
Commis Brennan called on  Mayor Michael Quill to speak
Mayor Quill:  Thank you for allowing me this time to speak. I would like to welcome Jack Hardy to the commission and thank you for serving your community.  I would also like to express my appreciation to Bob Welch. He was appointed a civil service commissioner in 1994 and became a chairman in 1995. In his 14 years here he has gone through 7 different city managers.  Bob weathered through them all. Bob’s expertise and insight has been invaluable to Auburn.  Thank you Bob!

New Business:
Approval of May 1 Minutes. Commis. Camardo motion to approve Hardy 2nd. Motion carried 3-0.
Removal of one firefighter candidate off of eligible list #69-803. Commis. Brennan read from letter that was sent to candidate in regards to notifying us with in 15 days if the candidate would like to refute the disqualification. The 15 days has passed and no communication has been made.
Commis. Camardo motioned to remove the one candidate due to no response. Hardy 2nd motion carried 3-0.
Commis. Brennan:  55A act attached letter from the state has been sent in closure of the request we have received questioning if the 55A act will supersede the age requirement for police officers. The state has responded that it does not. Does the public have any thing to add?
Candidate approached the podium and requested an executive session to discuss the matters as they are personal.  
Commis Brennan approved after they finish the regular meeting.
For informational purposes a list of personnel changes since Jan 1 – present was distributed.
Eligible list need to be approved for Purchasing Assistant, School Secretary and Secretary. Motion made by Commis. Camardo to approve all lists. 2nd by Hardy motion carried 3-0.
Brennan: End of meeting.  We can now go into executive session.  Motion made by Commis Camardo to go into exec. session Hardy 2nd motion carried 3-0.
Commis Brennan motioned to go back into general session. Camardo 2nd motion carried 3-0.
Commis. Camardo: In executive session we had discussion about 55A act and ADA. I motion to have corp. counsel look into ADA & 55A act. Hardy 2nd. Motion carried 3-0.
Motion made by Commis. Brennan to adjourn the meeting. The next meting will be September 4th. Enjoy your summer.

Meeting adjourned 11:35am.
